Below is a partial list of clients - large and small - for whom I have done work in the past couple of years.
Pearson Education
My first project with the Geoscience and Chemistry group at Pearson Higher Ed involved adapting more than a hundred Flash-based tutorials for several online textbooks. Among the tasks I handled for this: maintained highly-detailed tracking of all media corresponding to the multiple iterations of each tutorial; analyzed, edited and mastered the audio narrations, expunging old navigational commands and other irrelevant material; authored complex wireframes for each iteration of these tutorials, including details explicating of how each screen functioned and providing audio timing cues for all on-screen activity - for instance, when an animation ought to start or when the viewer should be moved onto the next screen.
Matt was an indispensable member of the team. He immediately set up the organizational tools and processes that laid the basis for the smooth functioning of a complex 18 month project. Throughout the project process, Matt provided leadership to improve overall product usability, execute complex and highly detailed storyboards, track hundreds of assets, handle audio production and anything else he saw that needed attention.

I have also reviewed and made recommendations for video content to be used as supporting media for Pearson’s online geology and geography titles.
Core K12 Education
For Core K12, I designed icons and information graphics to add clarity and punch to their RFP responses and sales documents.
Matt brings a combination of unique expertise in education coupled with an elegant, simple design aesthetic that few, if any, can match. For our projects, these qualities were essential to their success. At every turn, Matt challenged us to do things better, make things cleaner, and provide more clarity.

Peoples Education
Peoples needed to revamp their online suite of Measuring Up assessment products with improved overall usability and enhanced reporting capabilities. From the top down, I completely redesigned the inter- and intra-product navigation and GUI for all user views – K-12 students, teachers, school and district administrators all use the Measuring Up products. Special attention and emphasis was given to improving the reports used by educators at all levels; generating reports had to be simple and immediate and every derived report had to have a clear, actionable purpose.
Shortly after roll out in 2010, the new suite of products – rechristened first as ePath Knowledge but now called Measuring Up Live – won a “Distinguished Achievement Award” from the Association of Educational Publishers.
Syncresis
I partnered with brand strategy firm Syncresis in redesigning the website of Summit Medical Group. SMG’s goal was to build out a medical information portal, giving their patients easy access to deep wells of medical information and also a simple way to navigate among their 100+ practitioners and specialists. Central to the success of this redesign was a clear, consistent approach to overarching site nomenclature and navigation as well as an intelligent and responsive search functionality to engage and assist the user - try the page top "Search" box for yourself! This was one of those welcome projects where I could see my design right through to the end: I coded all of the the front-end HTML and CSS templates used in the Django framework.
Bowclamp
Small business owner Craig Feuerzeig – inventor and manufacturer of the ingenious Bowclamp – had a clear idea of how he wanted his website to look: it needed to have the feel of an old Sears Roebuck mail-order catalog. My job was to work with him to figure out what was needed for his audience – experienced, pro carpenters as well as hobbyists - to immediately “get” the utility and necessity of keeping some Bowclamps around the woodshop. I helped Craig choose the best nomenclature for instant clarity with his audience, organized the content and designed all the site’s navigation, and finally I translated the whole package into the “old school” catalog look-and-feel he desired. This project had a little bit of everything: information and GUI design as well as coding the entire site. I am pleased to report that sales and distribution are better than ever!
The Thousand Pities
I began taking my music and songwriting seriously during college. In my twenties, I spent several years schlepping my brand of jangly guitar rock/pop through college towns and cities all around the USA before walking away from music almost entirely. In 2006, after a dozen years on “hiatus,” I began writing and recording again. Pulling on the talents of neighbors, friends and some of New Jersey's finest musicians, slowly The Thousand Pities took form. The website is a source for information and sights/sounds for fans and new listeners as well as a "hub" for our social media endeavors.
Have a listen to The Pities! I produced, wrote, recorded and mixed everything you hear...
